Vestas 11th Hour Racing Volvo Partners with Oakcliff Sailing

Vestas 11th Hour Racing – Graduates of Oakcliff programing are all eligible to be chosen to be a part of the Volvo Ocean Race.  For each of the 11 ports, two people will be flown in and be fully integrated into the team. Vestas 11th Hour is led by Mark Towill and Charlie Enright who in their own rights are graduates of the Oakcliff program.   They led the Oakcliff All American Offshore Team and then went on to race on Alvimedica in the last Volvo.  The partnership with Oakcliff was their idea and their way of reaching back and pulling up other young hungry athletes who have their minds set on competing in the Volvo Ocean Race.   This partnership is new to Oakcliff. Downwind Aero Project Phase 2C Report now published online, as is 14M Model hull projec Newport, RI – The Sailing Yacht Research Foundation (SYRF) is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Numeca International for a free hands-on seminar about Numeca’s FINE™/Marine simulation software for marine design to be held at the New York Yacht Club on Wednesday, May 10th. An overview of FINE™/Marine capabilities and benefits for simulation in naval architecture will be presented by Benoit Mallol, product manager of the marine group at Numeca International. This is a unique opportunity to also listen to industry leaders on how they take advantage of FINE™/Marine in their design process, with speakers including Len Imas from Oracle Team USA. The seminar will feature live demonstrations with FINE™/Marine software that gives new users the chance to experience automated simulations during hands-on exercises. For those interested, this free introduction is followed by two days of intensive training on the use of FINE™/Marine. Youth Sailing Foundation Proposes Sailing Center in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — The Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County has presented a plan to build a community sailing center on the vacant land on the Vero Beach Electric Power Plant property adjacent to the Indian River Lagoon. The plans were presented at the Special Call City Council meeting on April 17. The sailing center would include the construction of a 10,000-square-foot, two-story building, installation of floating docks, ramps and parking to facilitate public access to the lagoon for small watercraft including sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards.
